All members of the Civil Protection Department have now obtained the international NFPA 1001 certification, a globally recognized standard that confirms the highest levels of training, competence and safety in the field of firefighting services.
This was announced by Minister for Home Affairs and Security Glenn Bedingfield during his first official visit to the Civil Protection Department.
Minister Bedingfield said that this certification is much more than a formal certificate, but is confirmation that every member of the department is trained according to international standards and ready to face any emergency with the highest level of professionalism, competence and confidence.
“It is an achievement that reflects years of investment in people, training, technology and equipment. When citizens ask for help, they have the peace of mind that they have professionals trained to the highest international standards. The Government will continue to invest in our workers, in their training and in the resources they need to continue to provide the highest quality service,” said Minister Bedingfield.
During his visit, the Minister thanked all members of the Civil Protection Department for their dedication, particularly in light of the intensive work they have carried out over the last few days in response to various fires and emergencies in the high temperatures.
The Minister also mentioned how the latest World Bank report on emergency preparedness and response in Malta gives positive remarks to the Civil Protection Department, describing it as a professional service with a high level of training, specialized capabilities and strong coordination with all first responder entities.
He stated that this international recognition is the result of continuous investment in the capabilities of the workforce and confirms that Malta has a department capable of responding effectively to both daily emergencies and more complex situations.
“The Government, I and all Maltese people are proud of you and we thank you for the work you do,” concluded Minister Bedingfield.
