Opposition Leaders Alex Borg has announced that a future Nationalist Party government would invest around €600 million to overhaul Malta’s healthcare system, including building two new hospitals and upgrading existing facilities.
Unveiling the proposals, Borg said a new administration would renegotiate pay packages for healthcare workers within its first 100 days, aiming to address staff shortages and curb brain drain.
The plan includes a 400-bed hospital in Gozo and a National Health Park focused on mental health and rehabilitation, while shifting the system’s focus from treatment to prevention to ease pressure on Mater Dei Hospital.
Other measures include free cancer medicines and a €1,000 monthly stipend for students pursuing health-related studies.
