The Minister for European Funds and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, is calling on all eligible 18-year-olds in Malta to seize the opportunity offered through the DiscoverEU initiative, which opened its latest application on 8 April and will remain open until 22 April.
DiscoverEU, an action under the Erasmus+ programme, will once again provide 40,000 youths across Europe with free train passes, enabling them to travel across the continent, explore Europe’s cultural richness, and connect with fellow young Europeans.
Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi emphasised the importance of such initiatives in broadening horizons and strengthening European identity among youths. He stated that “DiscoverEU offers Maltese youths a unique chance to experience Europe first-hand. This initiative is not only about travel; it is about learning, personal growth, and building a deeper understanding of the diverse cultures that make up our European family. I strongly encourage all eligible youths to apply and make the most of this life changing opportunity.”
Through DiscoverEU, successful applicants will have the chance to:
- Travel across Europe primarily by rail
- Discover Europe’s cultural heritage and contemporary diversity
- Meet peers from different countries
- Gain valuable life experience and independence
The initiative forms part of the European Union’s commitment to empowering young people, promoting mobility, and fostering a sense of shared European citizenship.
Maltese residents born between 1 July 2007 and 30 June 2008 are invited to submit their applications through the official European Youth Portal.
