The Energy and Water Agency (EWA) and the Foundation for Social Welfare Services (FSWS) are collaborating to distribute ‘Water – Be the Change’ gift packs including water saving gadgets. The aim of this initiative is to continue promoting sustainable living practices across Malta and Gozo.
The ‘Water – Be the Change’ devices will be distributed across diverse locations to ensure accessibility and convenience for targeted communities, particularly focusing on supporting vulnerable individuals within our society. Eligible recipients have been notified through collection letters, enabling them to collect the provided packages.
The ‘Water – Be the Change’ devices serve as useful tools in promoting water conservation and financial savings for families. Recipients are equipped with comprehensive installation instructions during distribution to ensure the best use of these gadgets. During the distribution period spanning from April to May, over 11,000 water gift packs and 12,000 water kits will be disbursed across 28 different distribution points.
Minister for the Environment, Energy and Regeneration of the Grand Harbour Miriam Dalli stated that, “This collaboration is a significant step forward in our commitment to sustainability for all. Through this collaboration we will be distributing practical Water-Be the Change kits. This is a tangible action towards a more sustainable future, and it will help these families to be more efficient in their water consumption, save money and waste less water.”
Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights Michael Falzon said that Malta is offering the lowest energy prices among all the countries of the European Union and how this is being reflected in more money in people’s pockets and an incentive especially for those who can afford it the least. “Today’s initiative is not an isolated measure, there are several other measures, such as the additional increase in COLA, the increase in the minimum wage, reinforced pensions year after year, without any additional tax. This Government understands people’s realities and will therefore continue to be of help”, stressed Minister Michael Falzon.
Michael Schembri, Chief Policy Officer for Water at EWA highlighted the importance of such collaboration between entities that would ultimately lead to the public and the country to benefit both on a financial and environmental level.
Water conservation, as emphasised through this initiative, is not about compromising our quality of life; rather, it is about using our resources wisely and ensuring their sustainability for future generations. It is essential for everyone to learn about water conservation practices and actively contribute to safeguarding our precious water resources.
The collaborative efforts of EWA, alongside the FSWS, exemplify a commitment to fostering sustainable living practices while addressing societal needs. Through initiatives like the ‘Water – Be the Change’ campaign, we can collectively strive towards a more resilient and environmentally conscious society, ensuring a brighter future for all.
