SmartCity continues to be given life with a project for families

Prime Minister Robert Abela inaugurates The Shoreline Mall and stresses a sustainable approach that goes hand in hand with investment

In our commitment in favor of beautiful projects and regeneration, we want to bring about a change that also preserves the characteristics of the place. Prime Minister Robert Abela emphasized this in an address he made during a visit and the inauguration of The Shoreline Mall, a new complex in Kalkara that includes a number of shops and attracts many families. With an investment of €200 million, The Shoreline is a project in SmartyCity that contains not only establishments but also places for the entertainment of families, including children.

Prime Minister Robert Abela noted the investment being made to bring SmartyCity to life including the state-of-the-art campus of the Institute for Tourist Studies. He said that we must support investments with a balanced approach also in favor of sustainability. Here he announced how the Government understood the need to strengthen the road infrastructure towards SmartCity but also recognized environmental protection and that is why from the original proposal before 2013, the Government will reduce by two thirds the amount of expropriated land to have the new link to SmartCity that caters to the volume of visitors. The revised plan also means 80% less t a ‘ expropriated private land, most of it saved is agricultural land.

Prime Minister Abela noted how the investment he was inaugurating in SmartCity is another demonstration of confidence in our country and reiterated the support that the Government will continue to give by bringing certainty and stability. He said that this investment in the south of the country also shows how this region also attracts families. In fact he thanked the investors in this project who created an environment where families can spend quality time. Before the inauguration, Prime Minister Robert Abela visited the complex where he met with workers and families who were on site.
