Agreement reached on the review of the European Budget – Prime Minister Robert Abela says that this agreement bodes well not only for the European Union but also for our country

During the Extraordinary Summit of the European Council in Brussels, an agreement was reached between the twenty-seven Leaders on the mid-term review of the European Budget, better known as the Multi-Annual Financial Framework 2021-2027, the MFF.

In this review, Ukraine will be provided with significant financial assistance, split between grants and loans.

An increase in funds was also allocated for migration and the southern neighbourhood.

In his first reaction at the end of this Summit, Prime Minister Robert Abela claimed that this agreement bodes well not only for the European Union but also for Malta.

This is as the strengthening of this aid will be helping the countries in the southern neighborhood to continue investing in the socio-economic and sustainable development of their country.

In this way the main causes of migration will be addressed and the inflows to our country and others in the region will decrease.

Regarding the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, Prime Minister Robert Abela insisted that this dire situation cannot continue to be ignored while thousands of innocent children lose their lives.

“A permanent cessation of hostilities is needed while humanitarian aid should be delivered as soon as possible,” stressed the Prime Minister.

“The dignity of the Palestinians needs to be respected and therefore we must continue working for a two-state solution while recognizing Israel’s right to protect itself,” claimed the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister Robert Abela called for a stronger position from the European Union on the situation in the Middle East to remain the shield of human rights and offer a ray of hope to the peoples affected by this conflict. .

The European Council also discussed the agricultural sector, as in Brussels and in other cities around Europe there are currently ongoing protests about European rules in this area.
