The European Commissioner for Agriculture closely follows the direct aid that the Government is giving to the agricultural sector

On the second day of his visit to Malta, the European Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski was able to see the agricultural realities of our country, the Government’s investment and aid in the agricultural field and he visited a number of Maltese and Gozitan farmers and villagers.

Accompanied by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo, the European Commissioner visited the agricultural sector in Gozo, where he met Gozitan farmers in their fields and farms, who stated how in the background of the challenges that the international scene brought on the sector, they found the Government helped them lift the burden. The European Commissioner complemented the commitment of the Maltese Government that helped the sector in this time of crisis through national funds that complemented European funds.

In Gozo, the European Commissioner Wojciechowski also visited a major tomato processing factory, as well as seeing the popularity that the tourist niche of Agri-Tourism is gaining in our country, particularly in this island.

During this visit, Minister Anton Refalo mentioned and discussed a number of key points, including the work that Malta is carrying out in favor of food security and its fight against climate change, the peasant reform, the projects and initiatives that encourage organic farming products and that more young people come to work in this field.

Minister Refalo thanked the European Commissioner for Agriculture for this visit where he even met the workers in the agricultural sector at their workplace. He reiterated the Government’s commitment to continue to strengthen this area, through a number of initiatives and measures that are constantly announced in favor of Maltese and Gozitan farmers and villagers.
