Malta hosts discussions on peace in Ukraine

During the today, Saturday and tomorrow, Sunday, the Maltese Government at the request of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is hosting the Ukraine Peace Forum.

During this meeting the Maltese Government was represented by the Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg and the Head of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat Glenn Micallef. In the opening speech of these important discussions, Minister Ian Borg claimed that Malta will continue to show its support with the aim of restoring sovereignty and territorial integrity in Ukraine.

“Malta believes in multilateralism under international law and the United Nations charter. Although we are a neutral state, we can never not condemn the injustice, the atrocities and even the abuse of power that is being done in this region. That way we will continue to be at the forefront of condemning this aggression,” claimed Minister Borg.

He went on to say how more than 60 delegations chose to participate in these discussions. This is a strong demonstration of confidence that Malta can serve as a bridge for peace. He went on to say how this shows the support that the world is showing towards Ukraine and its people. Minister Borg said how this meeting is a unique opportunity to analyze the work that has been done so far on the 10 points of President Zelenskyy’s peace plan and the work that will be done to continue building on this.

The Maltese Government also noted the appreciation of the countries that participated for Malta’s initiative to host these discussions.
