Italian Coastguard ships join Maritime Exercise in Maltese waters

Later today, two Italian Coastguard vessels, namely: Bruno Gregoretti and the Aurelio Visalli, will be calling into the Grand Harbour to take part in a Maritime Exercise scheduled to be held in Maltese Territorial waters between the 06 and 09 May 2024.

This Maritime Exercise, called, ‘Barracuda 2024’, has been bilaterally organised between the Armed Forces of Malta and the Italian Coastguard in collaboration with other local and foreign stakeholders such as Transport Malta, Virtu Ferries, the European Maritime Safety Agency, and the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre, amongst other stakeholders.

Besides participation with various maritime assets, rotary wing aircraft together with other units, the Armed Forces of Malta is to take the lead role in the planning and execution of the exercise which will take place in and around the Maltese archipelago. The exercise will be executed in three distinct phases, and aims to improve the capabilities, coordination and interoperability in several different pertinent areas such as mass rescue operations and pollution response scenarios.
