Minister Byron Camilleri in talks with the Minister of the Interior of Libya

The Minister for the Interior, Security, Reforms and Equality Byron Camilleri had a meeting with the Libyan Minister for the Interior Emad Al-Trabelsi, at the maritime base of the Armed Forces of Malta in Xatt it-Tiben.
Key on the agenda was the cooperation between the two countries in the areas of security which is bearing fruit, the training that the Armed Forces of Malta are giving to the Libyan Authorities, including in rescue, which was mentioned Dolphin 1, and also the theme of irregular immigration. Minister Byron Camilleri said that the relationship between Malta and Libya continues to strengthen, even through the training that the Libyan authorities have received in our country in recent days.
“Together with Minister Trabelsi we were able to observe the training that in the last days officials at the Libyan Ministry of the Interior, those called ‘GACS’ were receiving in our country from the Armed Forces of Malta. Through this training we are seeing that they are prepared not only when it comes to maneuvers at sea and search and rescue, but also to have a capacity even together to fight human traffickers at sea. Committed to continuing the special relationship between Malta and Libya for the benefit of both peoples,” concluded Minister Camilleri.
The Libyan Minister Al-Trabelsi said that he is happy with the exercises and training that the Armed Forces of Malta are giving to the Libyan authorities with the aim of being in a better position to enforce the law and how to eliminate criminals involved in human trafficking.
“We are very happy with this joint maritime training between the General Department of Coastal Security in the Libyan Ministry of the Interior and the Maltese Coast Guard in the field of search and rescue in Libyan, Maltese and international waters. This training is aimed at enforcing the law and eliminating criminals involved in human trafficking as well as to rescue immigrants and provide them with assistance. We wish every success to all those involved in this work and we also thank the Maltese Order Forces for the good cooperation they have with us,” stated the Libyan Minister.
At the end of their meeting they were also able to follow the training being given to the Libyan authorities at sea.
