The 6th edition of CodeSprintMT launched – an exercise that brings education and industry closer together

CodeSprintMT is a competition addressed to students of digital technology, but it is also an important exercise to bring education closer and closer to the industry and therefore an exercise in areas that today’s economy needs.

The competition is organized by the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation which is constantly exploring new ways to minimize the gap between education and industry, while seeing which gives opportunities for what students learn in schools to be contextualized with what happens in the workplace.

The competition analyzes the skills of secondary students, post-graduate students of Computing and Information Technology, undergraduate students and since last year’s edition a new category for established software developers has also been added. The world is in a continuous industrial evolution and one of the sectors that is at the forefront is the digital transformation. World economies are changing and becoming more dependent on the digital world. This is leading to new opportunities springing up every day in the job market and with them the need for workers who have new skills.

The Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima said, “As a Ministry we are working to nurture students, even from a young age, in these subjects. This is a link between education and innovation to strengthen digital technology. We want to see that we continue to give the importance that is needed in our schools in learning linked to the industrial revolution: robotics; IT technology, system integration, augmented reality, cybersecurity. The culmination of all this is one, to have more human capital that is trained in this sector”.

The work by the Ministry is being done in various ways, not only with the introduction and use of digital tools in schools, but also in a practical way. Work is also underway by the Science Center within the Ministry, also in partnership with private entities, in the case of CodeSprintMT with ICE Malta.

Minister Grima encouraged participation in this 6th edition of CodeSprint, for which registration is open until June 23. The competition will take place in July in a virtual way. Among other prizes, the winners are given study programs at an international level.
