51% of people who took part in a pilot project had hearing problems

Research into hearing tests in a number of villages in Malta found that 51% of the people who took part had hearing problems.

For this research, which was carried out on the initiative of the Ministry for Inclusion and Quality of Life and MEP Alex Agius Saliba, and which began last June, 383 people have already been visited. In the second part of the project, which started today, another 200 people will be visited.

The results of the research were presented by Dr Andrew Sciberras on behalf of the Association of Maltese Audiologists.

The research was carried out in 15 villages in Malta including Ħal Safi, Ħad-Dingli, Ħal Kirkop, Qrendi, Żurrieq, Imtarfa and Rabat.

The Minister for Inquiry and Quality of Life Julia Farrugia Portelli spoke about how this research is consolidating from now on part of the national strategy on disability, where objective number two clearly speaks of the importance collection of research, while further raising awareness of different disabilities.

Member of the European Parliament Alex Agius Saliba stressed the importance of this project, as for the first time we are scientifically seeing a clear picture of the problems we have in the country when it comes to health. -hearing. He also said that these numbers should create greater awareness among the public so that everyone can do the necessary tests so that if there are cases of problems one can notice the issue at an early stage and thus avoid that they lead to permanent disability.
