Full collaboration with the media in the Small Countries Games

Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima announces collaboration between MOC and PBS and other TV stations regarding the Games of the Small States of Europe

 “The Games of the Small countries are as much for the athletes and sportsmen as they are for the entire Maltese and Gozitan people and therefore we will see that these games arrive in our homes so that everyone can enjoy a sporting spectacle”.

This was announced by the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima, during a news conference, during which details were given of the important role that the media will play. in this international event. It was explained that after discussions that took place, an agreement was reached for the National Broadcasting to coordinate the broadcasts between the three big stations which together with a number of private companies will coordinate their resources to be able to deliver the games in – houses.

The public will be able to go to the sports facilities where the games will be held, however those who cannot leave their homes for one reason or another, will be able to follow frequent transmissions during all the days of the games . These transmissions include both the sporting events themselves and other transmissions related to what is going on in each competition.

Among these, technical interviews, interviews with athletes and the awarding of medals to the winners. Minister Clifton Grima spoke about the enthusiasm that exists not only among the athletes and sportsmen, but also in the Organizing Committee who have been going through the preparations since it was known that Malta will host the Games of the Countries -Small.

“I am having an excellent response from my colleagues, the ministers responsible for the sport of those countries that will be represented in our country. The wait for them to come among us is a big one, especially when one remembers that during the pandemic this event did not take place. Our country will meet all expectations, because the work that has been done and which is currently at its culmination will give the expected results,” said Minister Grima.

He also praised the commitment of the athletes and sportsmen who will represent our country in the various sports disciplines. He said that it is gratifying to see the commitment and dedication of all those involved, the athletes, the professionals who train them, all the workers who were involved in the various sports facilities that will be used and the organizers , who are doing their best to make the Small Countries Games in our country a mirror of everything that Malta and Gozo offer in the sports sector.

The CEO of Sport Malta, Mark Cutajar, spoke about the latest preparations currently underway. It was said that on May 12 the Maltese contingent in these games will be announced. “Now that we are approaching the last three weeks, all the preparations are going at a fast pace. Work is also underway on the Pits where the infrastructure is being erected for the opening ceremony,” stated Mr. Cutajar.

The opening ceremony will take place on May 29 at 20:45 in the evening on the Floriana Fosos.
