This public consultation will be open over a period of five weeks, where the public, people who have or had a drug problem, as well as professionals who work in this sector have the facility to share their experience their and give their recommendations. This consultation document includes a number of proposed actions that can help to reduce the supply and demand for drugs while strengthening the legal framework.

There is also a proposal to carry out tests on drivers to check if they are under the influence of drugs. “We have a situation where more people are looking for drugs, in various places. Therefore, this is a bold step in view of developments made in the type and quality of drugs available on the market. More than that for the fact that this policy has not been updated for many years,” stated Minister Michael Falzon.

This public consultation will be open until 29 April 2023, and suggestions can be sent to consultations.family@gov.mt.
