European Commissioner Stella Kyriakides thanks Malta for the support it has received from our country

In a letter sent to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne, the European Commissioner for Health Stella Kyriakides thanked our country for the support that the European Commission found from Malta in the vaccination program against -COVID-19.

The Commissioner for Health reiterated that the European Commission would not be in a position to launch a vaccination program on a European scale without the full support of the Member States, noting that Malta was one of the most strong support for the vaccine joint procurement program, which has led Member States to have equal — and at the same time — access to the vaccine.

This letter was sent in response to the letter sent by the Deputy Prime Minister urging the European Union to be proactive and buy the necessary deliveries of the Covid-19 vaccine that we may need in the coming years. Commissioner Kyriakides stressed that the Union has signed a third contract with BioNTech-Pfizer which commits the company to provide up to another 1.8 billion doses which will be distributed at the end of the year.
