Improved salaries and more benefits for the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra employees following the signing of a new collective agreement

A new collective agreement has been signed between the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) and the Professionals & Services Employees’ Union (PSEU). The new agreement will see an improvement in the conditions of employment of sixty-three professional musicians with the orchestra.

The signing was presided over by the Minister for National Heritage, the Arts, and Local Government, Owen Bonnici.

Minister Bonnici explained that the key changes in this collective agreement include an increase to the basic pay as well as increases in production, chamber, and instrument maintenance allowances. He added that musicians traveling on duty will benefit from conditions and allowances that are in line with the Public Service Management Code (PSMC).

“The aim of the collective agreement is not only of a financial nature. It also seeks to provide a clear guide on working conditions with the aim of serving as an aspiration for future employees. This is in order to maximise performance on the job and promote career progression and external recruitment while safeguarding current employees”, Minister Bonnici concluded.

The Chairperson and Acting CEO of the MPO, Mr Alfred Camilleri, and Mro. Chris Muscat respectively, were also present for the signing of the new collective agreement.
