MALTA, CERTAINTY AND STABILITY: The government continues to invest in our elderly

A multi-disciplinary clinic was inaugurated in Dar Padova in Għajnsielem, Gozo, with an investment of €140,000. Through this investment, Dar Padova, which daily serves the elderly in Gozitan with their medical needs, has been renovated and better equipped. The inauguration was done by the Minister for Active Aging Jo Etienne Abela.

It was explained that in this multidisciplinary clinic a number of essential services will be provided which include that of blood sampling, the CommCare service, of psychotherapy, of Continence, of Allied Health, of -Silvert-T, Clinical Nutrition, Vascular Clinic and others. Dar Padova will also serve as a day center for people with dementia, as well as a night shelter to offer overnight shelter to elderly people who live alone.

The minister explained that the investment in Dar Padova also included the purchase of furniture and different medical equipment that will be used by professionals to provide the aforementioned services. He reiterated that this project joins a series of other projects from the government for our elderly.

Minister Abela also hinted at the Budget measures for next year that will continue to support the elderly in our country, where he mentioned the continuous investment in clinics for the elderly in the community and investment to strengthen the San Vincent de Paul hospital.

“This is apart from the strong increases again in the pensions of the elderly in our country which have become synonymous with Budgets from a Labor Government. Next year the 100,000 seniors will be enjoying an increase of €12.50 per week, with a total investment of €65 million”, claimed Minister Abela.

Minister Jo Etienne Abela concluded by saying that the government is determined to keep investing in the elderly because they deserve the best quality of life.
