The Southern Regional Council is recognizing the commitment of the band clubs to society by signing a Memorandum of Understanding. Through this agreement, 17 band clubs will benefit from funding from the Regional Council in order to organize a musical activity within a year of signing. Band clubs will be given additional funds if the organized activity is environmentally sustainable.
This agreement is expected to translate into a strengthening of the socio-cultural branch through concerts and musical services offered by the band clubs in the communities of the Region.
“Due to the pandemic in the last two years we have had a lack of musical concerts organized by the band’s clubs and I understand the negative impact the pandemic has had on the clubs’ financial situation,” said the Secretary Parliamentarian for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli. She added that thanks to the funding from the Region, the band clubs will receive funds that will be helpful in order to organize musical activities that will be enjoyed both by the southern community, as well as by tourists and -local tourists.
For his part, the President of the Southern Regional Council Jesmond Aquilina said that “the Region is working on other initiatives that will be beneficial for the better life of the residents of the Region.” He closed his speech by thanking the Committees of the Music Societies that participated in this agreement and looking forward to more work and cooperation together.
“I always stress the importance of continuing to celebrate our culture and preserve it for the generations after us, because after all the Maltese cultural heritage is part of our identity and is what sets us apart,” concluded Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli
The signing of the MoU took place in the office building of the Southern Regional Council where the Executive Secretary of the Southern Regional Council Philip Carabott, the President of the Local Council Association Mario Fava were present and the 17 Presidents of the band clubs.
