The Ministry for Social Policy and the Rights of the Child has launched a work report by the Positive Parenting Taskforce over the past three years. This task force was set up to raise awareness of what makes parenting positive and how to provide more stability and a suitable environment for children.

At a news conference, details of this evaluation report were presented. It became clear how much more knowledge was needed about early intervention, which is the period when the mother becomes pregnant and up to a year later.

Parents and mothers in need of psychological help were reached at this stage, as the pregnancy left many emotions and in some cases the help of professionals was needed. So we have continued to build on existing services at Mater Dei and are providing services to mothers and fathers who have mental health difficulties.

Minister Michael Falzon spoke about how this taskforce has further strengthened this work in this delicate area through the ‘Breaking the News’ campaign where professionals are being given professional training on how to deliver the news f ‘case of complications in pregnancy or disability in children.

Positive Parenting Taskforce Chair Ruth Sciberras also spoke at the news conference. She gave a list of all the work done, with the participation of various local and even international professionals.

Factors about the choice of partner or partners, which may have effects on children, were also mentioned.

“Raising children brings a lot of responsibility and it is essential that children feel safe in themselves and this also for the good of society. Therefore, as a government, we are committed to supporting parents in their duties. Especially families who, due to various difficulties, including financial ones, need more help in raising their children. During these three years we have carried out campaigns in favor of raising children and adolescents as well as on the timing of pregnancy, and the need for such national campaigns is becoming increasingly clear, ”concluded Minister Falzon.
