Scotland’s First Minister sets date for Independence Referendum

Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland’s First Minister, has set 19 October 2023 as the date for a proposed “consultative referendum” next year on Scottish independence.

As well as announcing the date for the referendum, she said she wants to ensure the legality of the move and has asked the Lord Advocate, Scotland’s top lawyer, to refer the issue to the Supreme Court for approval or not.
