Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo, together with Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights Alicia Bugeja Said, launched AgriFair 2022 – an event that will bring together under one roof different representatives working in the fields of agriculture and fisheries.

Minister Anton Refalo began by mentioning how the Maltese Government has been and will continue to be a supporter of these sectors, in particular due to the negative impact that the pandemic has had on them and the conflict in Ukraine.

He also said that, “the fair will continue to strengthen the collaboration between the various associations working in these crucial areas, while giving a unique opportunity to the public to see with their own eyes and touch ‘what these sectors provide.’

Parliamentary Secretary Alicia Bugeja Said praised the initiative because with similar activities, the government continues to promote local produce. “At this fair, one will find over 50 exhibitions, including government entities, which will be showcasing some of the projects that the ministry has worked on for the benefit of all Maltese and Gozitans”, said the parliamentary secretary.

Alicia Bugeja Said also urged all families to attend because, “we will be promoting and providing interesting information on crucial sectors for our country, such as fishing and aquaculture.”

“I thank all the workers involved because with their help, thoughts and suggestions, we will be holding a very beautiful fair which, while it will serve as a source of information, is an event that can be enjoyed both from adults as well as children “, concluded the parliamentary secretary.

This fair, which will be spread over three days, aims to promote the work of farmers, fishermen, government entities, businesses in the agri-food industry and other organizations by showing the public. what services and products they offer.

This fair will also serve for the government to continue to preserve the traditions while giving a modern trend with an emphasis on technology, innovation, diversification, and the educational aspect.

AgriFair will be an interactive trade fair and platform for business networking, discussions and consultation on topics related to this sector, exhibition of machinery, technological systems, and agricultural production methods and systems. in a sustainable way. This activity will also offer a culinary experience of Maltese food through stands cooking Maltese products.

An exhibition of animals will also be held, with a Maltese and foreign jury, as well as an exhibition of indigenous Maltese animals. There will also be craft shows and tours of farms will be organized where one can experience and appreciate the agricultural work and production of Maltese food.

The fair, with the concept of Farm-to-Fork, will start on Friday, May 20 and end on Sunday, May 22, from 10 in the morning until 10 in the evening, at the MFCC, Ta ‘Qali.
