The Minister for Public Works and Planning Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi announced that in the coming days work is expected to begin on the roof and windows of the main workshop of the Directorate of Manufacturing and Services in the industrial field at Kordin.
Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi said that this work will be done by the workers of the Department of Public Works and is expected to last about four months. The minister went on to say that this investment of around € 800,000 is being made to make the workers of this section have a healthier and safer working environment and thus, increase the productivity of the services provided. He concluded by stressing the importance of not losing the skills and abilities of these workers and of continuing to provide training for today’s needs.
Raymond Caruana, Director of Manufacturing and Services, explained that the project would replace the existing iron roof and replace it with “insulated sandwich panels”. Windows will also be replaced with new electronic ones that open automatically with a special mechanism. The new structure of this roof will be designed in such a way that photovoltaic panels can be installed on site to produce electricity.
During the visit, Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi also met with the staff in the various workshops and offices of this directorate.
