RISe Foundation to offer therapy services to inmates and former prisoners

An agreement has been signed between the Correctional Services Agency and the RISe foundation through which therapy services will be offered to both prisoners and those who have served their sentences.

.Among the services that will be offered, through this agreement, RISe will see outreach, after-care, help and support to the families of the prisoners, training services and more. In order for these services to be available, a number of professionals working in the fields of therapy will be employed.

The aim of all this is to prepare prisoners for post-release leave, to reduce the rate of recidivism and to promote prevention through education, training and tailor-made programs.

The Minister of the Interior, National Security and Law Enforcement, Byron Camilleri, expressed his satisfaction with this agreement,  because special attention is being paid to prisoners who have left the Kordin Correctional Facility and who have been discharged where they will have the chance and opportunity to be helped, guided and heard.

Byron Camilleri said that through this agreement there is a clear plan for these prisoners to be able to have a real process of rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

“This agreement is also being made in the context of many changes being made to the correctional facility driven by the conclusions and directions of the inquiry which I myself have appointed. Therefore, with what has been agreed with RISe, the strong push for more rehabilitation plans is being made both inside and outside the walls of the facility, “said Dr Camilleri.

Finally, the minister mentioned that through another agreement with the Mid-Dlam għall-Dawl foundation, there will also be a chance that there will be meetings between the children and their parents who will be serving a sentence. , while praising the work of the RISe foundation, which is working hand in hand with the Correctional Services Agency.

Present at the deal were Correctional Services Agency Chief Executive Robert Brincau and RISe Chairman Charles Mifsud.
