The Department of Civil Protection is appealing for caution in the light of the severe storm that is currently gripping the Maltese islands.

The Civil Protection is appealing for everyone to be extra cautious and to avoid places where the sea or water can cause flooding such as valleys. In the present circumstances, the Civil Protection staff on duty has been doubled in order to cope with the calls being made to it. Reports indicate that this is one of the worst storms in a long time.

The Director General, Emanuel Psaila, explained that Civil Protection resources are currently focused on rescue operations, so he appealed to the public to call 112 in the event of a major emergency. While assuring the public that there is no need for panic, Mr Psaila explained how other operations, including aid to control floods, will continue. However, the Department’s priority will always be cases where life may be in danger.
