Shortly after mid-night police and Civil Protection units were called to a fire at a private residence in Triq il-Papa Piju XII, Birkirkara.
A 55-year-old man from Balzan was in the residence at the time and was given first aid by a team doctor. He was taken to Mater Dei Hospital and was certified to have been seriously injured.
