Overnight, members of the Traffic Section along with the District Police, the Rapid Intervention Unit (RIU), the Environmental Protection Unit (EPU) and sections
carried out a number of checks as part of the ongoing police drive safely campaign on Maltese roads.
During these checks around Malta and Gozo, 520 vehicles were stopped.
Several people have been prosecuted for violating traffic regulations which included driving
without a valid license, use of a vehicle without a seat belt, driving a a vehicle without a valid road license and insurance policy. A vehicle that was being driven with missing registration numbers and an illegal light were among several other breeches of traffic regulations.
6 persons were found to be driving under the effect of alcohol, while another person refused to take the breathalyzer test and therefore not allowed to drive.
