42 feasibility and mobility studies and research projects financed during 2020 so far, through a total investment of €1.5 million in national funding programmes

During this year, the Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) has already financed 42 different feasibility and mobility studies and research projects with a total investment of €1.5 million from national funds. Apart from these, MCST has also financed the national research behind bilateral and multilateral projects through internationalisation programmes.

During his first meeting with the MCST Board, Minister for Research, Innovation and the Co-ordination of Post Covid-19 Strategy Owen Bonnici said that these projects were financed under four different funding programmes – Fusion CVP, Fusion TDP, the Internationalisation Partnership Awards Scheme + and the Space Research Fund. Minister Bonnici said that the number of research projects to be assisted will increase as the processing stage on projects submitted under other programs, including the COVID-19 R&D Fund and the Research Excellence Project, progresses onto the next phase.

Minister Bonnici said that this financing is crucial for the strengthening of research and for the building of a robust ecosystem of innovation. He said that MCST is doing sterling work in this field and that the contribution which the Council gives to the progress of our country is substantial.

Executive Chairperson Dr Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando said that the MCST Board is composed of people of high calibre who provide an excellent input for the furthering of research and innovation in Malta.
