Minister for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government José Herrera issues the Instruments Fund

Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government José Herrera announced a fund worth €45,000 issued by Arts Council Malta in collaboration with the Malta Band Clubs Association for the purchase of instruments for students to learn a particular instrument.

Minister Herrera reiterated that the Government is committed to continue strengthening and supporting band clubs because he truly believes that they play an important role in the core of our communities. “The Government believes that the role of bands in society is an important one and an essential part of the Maltese identity.” said Minister Herrera while pointing out that the role of bands clubs also includes the educational aspect to nurture youth and communities. The Minister emphasised that this fund is aimed at continuing to help band clubs but also to continue to encourage more young people to learn a musical instrument.

Dr Noel Camilleri, on behalf of the Malta Association of Banda Clubs, said that this is another initiative that the Association is working on in collaboration with Arts Council Malta for the benefit of maltese culture and local communities. Dr Camilleri reiterated that the Association is a proactive one where it not only puts forward proposals but also ensures that the initiatives are carried out in the best possible way with a sense of collaboration with the respective partners. The Malta Band Clubs Association welcomes such initiatives because it believes that the ultimate goal is to continue building more sustainable societies while boosting the cultural aspect that is so dear to the Maltese and Gozitans.

This fund offers co-financing for the purchase of instruments for use by band players registered with the applying musical society. The fund may cover up to 85% of the total expenditure. The proposal is to include a detailed and realistic educational programme, the name and experience of the instructor, and details of the expected learning outcomes, said Mary Ann Cauchi, Director of Funds and Strategy.
