UK government loses Brexit court ruling

The High Court in England has ruled that Prime Minister Theresa May cannot trigger Article 50, to officially begin procedures to leave the EU without consulting Parliament.

The decision is a significant setback for the Prime Minister’s Brexit strategy who had said she would start procedures by the end of March next year.

The Government immediately announced it would appeal against the ruling and the two sides will now prepare for another showdown at the Supreme Court in early December.
