Afghanistan evacuation date will not be extended

President Biden has confirmed that US evacuation flights out of Kabul will not be extended past the deadline of August 31.

It had been hoped that a virtual G7 summit would convince President Biden to extend that date but the firm stance by the US means no evacuation flights beyond the August 31 deadline.

Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the Taliban must ensure safe passage for anyone wanting to leave the country after 31 August.

The Taliban have already said August 31 is a red line date and any extension would invoke retaliation.
