Final works on the Bur il-Kbir project in Siġġiewi
The road will feature two traffic lanes to improve traffic flow
Bur il-Kbir road in Siġġiewi is set to reopen fully in the coming days, as the road-widening and improvement project being carried out by Infrastructure Malta has reached its final stage.
Launched earlier this year, the project covers a stretch of approximately 1.2 kilometres and aims to improve road safety, facilitate traffic flow and enhance connectivity in the area.
The Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Employment, Jonathan Attard, visited the site to view the final works, which also included the construction of rubble walls.
“The project included 620 metres of new rubble walls in the areas where the road was widened, as well as the reconstruction of approximately 450 metres of rubble walls along other sections of the road where widening was not required,” Minister Attard explained.
The project also includes the planting of 75 new trees on third-party properties as part of the measures associated with the works carried out in the area.
Once the remaining works are completed, the road will be fully reopened allowing road users to make use of its entire length.
Architect Rebecca Grech explained that, as part of this infrastructure project, widening works were carried out across areas covering approximately 850 square metres, while 7,200 square metres of the road surface were resurfaced with new asphalt.
“In addition to the asphalt surfacing, the final phase of the works also includes road markings. The project will provide two opposing traffic lanes to ensure improved traffic flow,” Grech explained.
The widening of various sections, together with improvements to the road surface and rubble walls, forms part of Infrastructure Malta’s ongoing efforts to upgrade road infrastructure and improve conditions for road users in various areas across the country.
