The Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) have launched investigations and technical assessments following the collapse of part of the ground in Ħal Tarxien Square during ongoing works at the site.
In a joint statement, the two authorities said they were on site alongside other relevant authorities to determine the cause of the incident and identify any potential risks.
They stressed that the safety of workers, residents and the general public remained their top priority.
Technical experts are currently examining the affected area, including the underground structure, to establish what measures are required to ensure the stability and safety of the site.
Meanwhile, Infrastructure Malta is in direct contact with the authorities and will take the necessary action based on the recommendations made by the experts.
