Prime Minister Robert Abela stressed the importance of our country continuing to attract quality investment that generates sustainable jobs, while strengthening economic competitiveness and working conditions. He said this during a pre-Budget 2027 consultative meeting with representatives of the Maltese Employers’ Association (MEA), at the Auberge de Castille.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister noted that Malta is in a strong economic position, despite the challenges and uncertainties that are dominating the international scene. He maintained that, while economic uncertainty is growing in several countries, Malta continues to enjoy a climate of stability that gives peace of mind to families and businesses. In this context, he reiterated the Government’s commitment to continue offering the necessary support to the people and businesses, while addressing the realities that economic success brings.
Dr Abela emphasised that employment remains a key pillar of our country’s economic and social development. In this regard, he referred to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) international conference, which is being held in Malta, as another opportunity for our country to continue to strengthen its visibility on an international level, as well as attract quality investment.
He stated that the Government will continue to pave the way for more quality investment that will create new job opportunities and contribute to a more sustainable and competitive economy.
The Prime Minister also spoke about the need for economic growth to be accompanied by a strong and fair labour market. In this context, he stressed the Government’s commitment to ensuring fair conditions for both workers and employers.
He also explained that these priorities must go hand in hand with continuous investment in the skills and training of workers in a world that is constantly evolving.
The Prime Minister thanked the MEA representatives for their work and for the proposals presented.
He reiterated the importance of continuous dialogue between the Government and social partners in order to make decisions that continue to strengthen our country’s competitiveness, create more quality job opportunities and lead to a better quality of life for all the people.
