Parliamentary Secretary responsible for Active Ageing, Deo Debattista at Talent for the Elderly

The artistic exhibition ‘Talents with a Grandparent’ has been launched, an initiative of the Senior Citizens Standards Authority (OPSA) which is giving space to the talents and creativity of senior citizens living in residences around Malta and Gozo.

The initiative is being launched in connection with the National Day dedicated to the Elderly with the aim of raising more awareness about the skills, talents and continuous contribution of older people to society.

As part of the project, the Authority provided the necessary materials to the participants so that they could express their creativity and talents through art. The works created are being presented to the public in the exhibition ‘Talents with Talent’, where visitors can appreciate not only the artistic skills of the participants, but also their experience, energy and creativity.

During the launch, the Parliamentary Secretary responsible for Active Ageing, Deo Debattista, stressed that initiatives such as ‘Talenti b’Għożża’ remind us that ageing is not just about care and support, but also about participation, creativity and contribution.

“Older people have talents, experiences, ideas and much to offer. We must continue to create opportunities where these talents are given the space and visibility they deserve, while continuing to strengthen active ageing that gives a sense of purpose, belonging and quality of life,” said Dr Debattista.

‘Talenti b’Għożza’ also conveys a message of inclusion and appreciation, while emphasizing the importance of older people remaining active, creative and involved in the community.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 30 September to 2 October 2026, between 8:00 and 16:00. On 3 October, in connection with the Notte Bianca activities, the public will also have the opportunity to visit the exhibition until late in the evening as part of the cultural programme in Valletta.

The public is invited to visit ‘Talenti b’Għożza’ and appreciate up close the work, creativity and talents of the elderly people who took part in this initiative.
