The Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Supply, together with the Public Abattoir and the Paola Local Council, have announced the second edition of Platt fil-Pjazza Paola, which will be held in Pjazza Antoine De Paule, Paola, on Saturday 19th September 2026 from 7:30pm onwards.
Following the success of the first edition, Platt fil-Pjazza Paola will once again bring together the community in an evening dedicated to traditional Maltese food, local produce and the work of Maltese farmers, ranchers and producers. The event will offer food, drink and entertainment for the whole family, while continuing to promote the Maltese gastronomic heritage and encourage consumers to further appreciate the quality, freshness and variety of local produce.
A Platt in Pjazza Paola will also be held as part of the Malta Sustainable Development Action Days 2026 activities, with an emphasis on sustainability, local produce and the responsible use of resources. During the evening, the Portico of the Basilica of Christ the King will be open to the public, so that those attending will also have the opportunity to climb and enjoy the magnificent view of Paola from the Portico.
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Supply Anton Refalo said that the return of Platt to Pjazza Paola continues to strengthen the work to bring local produce closer to the consumer. “Following the success of the first edition, we are once again bringing this activity to the heart of the Paola community. We want more families to discover and appreciate the quality of Maltese produce and, above all, the work behind it. When we choose local produce we are directly supporting our farmers, ranchers and producers, while continuing to strengthen the Maltese agricultural sector,” said Minister Refalo.
The Minister added that the Government will continue to work to create more opportunities for local producers, strengthen the link between producer and consumer and continue to promote Maltese products as quality products.
Director General Stefan Cachia said that Platt fil-Pjazza Paola is also an opportunity for the public to better understand the work that goes on along the meat production chain. “Through initiatives like this we are bringing the work of the Public Abattoir closer to the consumer, while continuing to promote practices that give greater value to the product and make the best use of available resources. In this way we will be supporting a sector on which several Maltese farmers, producers and families depend,” said Mr Cachia.
Paola Mayor Jason Silvio, together with Councillor Darren Lynch, thanked the Ministry for the collaboration and stated that activities such as Platt fil-Pjazza Paola bring more life to the square and strengthen the sense of community. “This is another opportunity for families to meet in the heart of Paola and at the same time celebrate Maltese produce and appreciate the work of our farmers, villagers and producers. We want Pjazza Antoine De Paule to continue to be a vibrant space where the community meets, participates and celebrates together.”
