On Tuesday evening, around 40,000 people attended the 18th edition of Isle of MTV Malta at the Fosos in Floriana, the largest free concert in Europe. The event continued to confirm its position as one of the most anticipated events of the Maltese summer, while also attracting thousands of tourists who visit Malta specifically for this festival.
The concert opened with the participation of several Maltese artists, including Jamie Cardona, Aidan and Mychael Bartolo Chircop, who kicked off an evening full of music and entertainment.
One of the most anticipated performances was that of Katy Perry, who presented a repertoire of hits spanning her career, along with her new single ‘Watch It Burn’. During an acoustic rendition of the song ‘Roar’, Perry shared with the audience a personal reflection on her personal life, while delivering a message of courage and perseverance to the thousands present. Her set was also characterized by several interactive moments with the public, including fan-cams, a walk through the crowd in a giant water bottle before closing her show with the worldwide hit ‘Fireworks’.
The public also enjoyed the performance of Afrjojack, a world-renowned DJ who closed the 18th edition of the Isle of MTV Malta.
Tourism Minister Jo Etienne Abela said that the Isle of MTV remains one of the most important events in Malta’s tourism calendar. “Events of this quality continue to strengthen Malta’s position as a leading destination for international events and contribute directly to our economy, while demonstrating our country’s capacity to host world-class productions. The fact that the concert will be broadcast in over 150 countries continues to give extraordinary visibility to Malta and strengthen its promotion on a global level,” Minister Abela said.
This year’s edition will be broadcast on MTV on 18th September in over 150 countries around the world and will also be available on demand, thus continuing to strengthen the promotion of Malta as a leading destination for events and tourism.
