Enemalta representatives met with St Julian’s council members to provide an update on the works at the The Village substation and to explain the next steps.
Generators were deployed in the area after a fire damaged the substation earlier this week, enabling Enemalta to maintain electricity supply to affected customers while permanent repairs are carried out.
Enemalta started working straightaway and have now cleared the damaged equipment from the substation. Technical experts are currently assessing the extent of the damage.
Once all necessary safety clearances have been obtained, new equipment will be installed allowing the substation to return to operation in the coming days.
During the meeting, Enemalta explained the next stages of the intervention, which include health and safety inspections by architects, before the delivery and installation of the new equipment.
This will be followed by testing and commissioning works before the substation is safely reconnected to the national grid.
Enemalta Executive Chairperson Inġ. Ryan Fava said the company was working to complete the repairs as quickly as possible.
“We appreciate that the temporary generators might cause an inconvenience to residents, but they are there to provide electricity while we are working to return the substation to normal operation as quickly and safely as possible.
“The damaged equipment has been removed and we are now proceeding with the necessary technical assessments. Once they are ready, the new equipment can be installed for the substation to be up and running in the coming days,” Inġ. Fava said.
He thanked the St Julian’s council and residents for their understanding while the works
progressed.
The temporary generators will remain in place until a continuous power supply is assured.
Enemalta will continue collaborating with the council and providing residents with updates as the works progress.
