Minister Chris Fearne meeting with Speaker of the House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle

Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Chris Fearne held a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, during an official visit to London.

During the meeting, in the presence of the High Commissioner of Malta to the United Kingdom, Prof. Stephen Montefort, the close and historic ties between Malta and the United Kingdom were discussed, as well as ways to further strengthen cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries. Opportunities for further exchanges and initiatives between Maltese and British parliamentarians were also discussed.

During his visit to the British Parliament, Minister Fearne also held a meeting with the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Malta, led by Kevin Bonavia MP as Co-Chair and Baroness Clare Gerada as Co-Chair. The meeting focused on the close relationship between the two countries and the APPG’s contribution to strengthening cooperation and promoting common interests between Malta and the United Kingdom.

Minister Fearne commended the renewed work of the APPG on Malta and expressed his appreciation for the group’s commitment to further strengthening ties between the two countries. Areas of common interest were also discussed during the meeting, including education, youth mobility, migration, international security and European and multilateral cooperation.

The visit continued with a meeting with the Maltese community in the United Kingdom at the High Commission of Malta in London. Minister Fearne thanked the Maltese living in the United Kingdom for their contribution and the work they do to keep alive their identity, culture and links with Malta.
