Malta leads Europe in terms of lowest concentration of tourism in the summer months

Malta tops tourism figures

Malta recorded the lowest share of nights spent by tourists during the two busiest months of the year among all European Union Member States, according to the latest statistics published by Eurostat for 2025. This further confirms our country’s successful transition towards a sustainable tourism model spread throughout the year.

The latest figures show that only 21.9% of all nights spent by tourists in Malta were recorded during the months of July and August, compared to the European Union average of 31.1%. Malta ranked first among all EU Member States with the lowest concentration of tourist activity during the summer period, ahead of Germany (24.0%) and Finland (24.1%).

This result reflects Malta’s continued evolution from a traditional sun and sea destination to one that offers diverse experiences throughout the year. This has been possible thanks to continued investment in the diversification of the tourism product, improved connectivity and a strategy focused on quality tourism.
