World Cup Finals 2026: Germany and Holland crash out

Germany have been knocked out of the World Cup Finals, losing a penalty shoot-out 4-3 against Paraguay.

Encisco gave Paraguay an unexpected lead moments before half-time and when Havertz equalized shortly after the break, it seemed that Germany could go on and win. Not so as the South American side frustrated Germany. Extra time could not separate them and in a penalty shoot-out, Paraquay held their nerve to send the four-times winners Germany out of the World Cup.

Holland, one of the finest teams never to have won the World Cup, suffered a similar fate, going out to Morocco, also on penalties.

Cody Gakpo gave Holland the lead late in the second half but were stunned when Issa Diop fired Morocco level in stoppage time. Like Germany, it remained 1-1 after extra time and like Germany, Holland failed to make their penalties count. It is Morocco who go into the last 16.
