The Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) is currently conducting a search and rescue (SAR) operation in Ċirkewwa after reports were received of a 13 year old girl who was swept into the sea yesterday evening.
First alerted through a 112 call, the Rescue Coordination Centre deployed an Armed Forces of Malta helicopter together with maritime assets. Personnel from the Civil Protection Department and the Malta Police Force also assisted by conducting additional searches from land of the area.
After extensive coastal and area searches, the operation was paused later in the night. Adverse weather conditions, including rough seas and strong winds, continue to create challenging circumstances for all responders involved. Despite these difficulties, search efforts resumed this morning at first light.
