No major traffic accidents on first night of New Year

During the first night of the year, the police carried out over 30 road-checks across Malta and Gozo, during which more than 700 vehicles were stopped.

Throughout these checks, over 100 contraventions were issued and 22 charges were brought, several breathalyser tests were conducted, 6 of which returned positive results.

Thanks to the collective efforts of the Malta police and the cooperation of the public, no major traffic accidents were reported on the first night of 2026.
