Swieqi United football pitch inaugurated with new synthetic surface at Pembroke Primary School

The Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima, together with representatives of the school, Swieqi United FC and the Malta Football Association, inaugurated the Swieqi United FC football pitch with a new synthetic surface, located at Pembroke Primary School.

This project was carried out as part of a programme involving the replacement of synthetic pitch surfaces that has been ongoing since 2021, with a total investment of approximately €8 million. Through this investment, the Government is ensuring that sports facilities across the Maltese islands remain of high quality and safe for the use of the entire sports community.

Minister Clifton Grima stated that this investment reflects the Government’s vision to continue to assist and strengthen Maltese sports associations so that sport continues to be strengthened both at the level of local clubs as well as at an educational and community level.

“Sport should be accessible to everyone, in a safe and modern environment. Investing in these pitches means more opportunities for children, students and communities to be active, play sport and develop new talents,” said Minister Grima.

He added that this work is being carried out in collaboration with the Malta Football Association, who together are working on a structured plan for the continuous maintenance and modernisation of football pitches across the country, so that they offer the best possible sporting experience.

This project in Pembroke is another link in a chain of sports infrastructure investments being made across Malta and Gozo, with the aim of ensuring that sport remains a main pillar in everyone’s lives.

Also present at the inauguration were MFA officials, as well as representatives of the school and the locality.
