The Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights has announced that at the end of this week it will be paying the payments of two different benefits. These include the In-Work Benefit and the Carers Grant, and which cover from July to September of this year.
These details were announced by the Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights, Michael Falzon, together with the Permanent Secretary, Mark Musu, during a press conference on Friday morning.
Minister Michael Falzon explained that around 25,000 families are benefiting from these two payments, with an investment of €5 million.
“This is a Government that has kept its word to families, workers and those parents who have to take care of their children due to severe disability. These are benefits that began during this administration, and which we will continue to strengthen from year to year, through increases and the broadening of thresholds,” stated Minister Michael Falzon.
Permanent Secretary Mark Musu explained that the majority of these beneficiaries are going to the In-work Benefit, so much so that 24,427 beneficiaries will benefit from it with an investment of almost €4 million. He said that this benefit is paid to couples where both work with a net income from employment that does not exceed €50,000 per year; couples where one of the parents works with a net income from employment that does not exceed €35,000 per year; and single parents who work with a net income from employment that does not exceed €35,000 per year.
Permanent Secretary Musu said that the Carer’s Grant is also being paid, with 539 beneficiaries benefiting from an investment of just over a million euros. This payment also includes 130 new beneficiaries who have severely disabled children under 16 years of age and who will receive the payment in arrears from January 2025.
The Carer’s Grant was introduced back in 2021 for parents who are unable to work to care for a severely disabled child aged 16 or over. The child must be entitled to the Enhanced Disability Assistance. This has been expanded so that now even parents of severely disabled children under 16 are eligible to receive the Carer’s Grant.
