A second suspect in connection with an armed robbery that took place on Thursday evening at a grocery store along Vjal it-8 ta’ Settembru in Xagħra, Gozo.
The 49-year-old man from Cospicua, a Maltese national, was arrested this afternoon at an apartment in Xagħra where the stolen vehicle used in the crime was also found abandoned.
The first man arrested yesterday is a 47-year-old Italian national living in St. Paul’s Bay.
Police were called at around 8pm after a man, allegedly armed with a firearm, entered the shop and demanded cash. Pointing the weapon at the cashier, the suspect grabbed the cash register drawer before fleeing in a waiting vehicle.
Investigators later confirmed the getaway car had been reported stolen earlier in Xewkija.
As the search for the suspects expanded, police were tipped off that one of the suspects was attempting to leave Gozo via the ferry. Officers rushed to the scene and arrested the man as he tried to board the ferry to Malta.
