Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo announced that the Agricultural and Rural Payments Agency is accepting applications for the pig welfare scheme until 27 June 2025.
This scheme offers direct assistance to Maltese and Gozitan pig farmers, with the aim of continuing to improve the conditions in which the animals are kept. With a total allocation of more than €2.2 million over a five-year period, this scheme is a testament to the Government’s commitment to agricultural practices that protect the dignity of animals and promote greater sustainability in the sector.
“The development of the sector must always go hand in hand with animal protection. We want a sector that not only produces, but that does so with conscience, knowledge, and humanity. We are also ensuring that farmers and ranchers have the tools and support necessary to be part of this positive change. Therefore, I thank all those who have already taken the step – with dedication and seriousness – to make a concrete difference in animal protection,” said Minister Anton Refalo.
