“Easter in Gozo” programme launched – Over 90 activities

Minister Clint Camilleri at launch of "Easter in Gozo"

The Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri launched the “Easter in Gozo” programme, which will start from 6 March and continue until 5 April 2026. This programme brings together a series of religious, cultural and community activities, spread across various localities, showcasing the unique traditions of the island of Gozo during this particular period of the year.

Minister Clint Camilleri stated that “we have launched Easter in Gozo, a programme of more than 90 activities, all cultural activities throughout Gozo where it will obviously be a cultural attraction for all those who are choosing to once again come to the island of Gozo for a short time or a period of rest. We are doing all this also within the strategy for Gozo, also within Vision 2050 where we want to continue to make this island a year-round destination, a monthly destination and I believe that with these initiatives we will also continue to strengthen internal and external tourism even during this period.”

Minister Camilleri continued by saying that Easter in Gozo is also an ideal time for families as it welcomes everyone, whether they are looking for a spiritual experience, an appreciation of tradition, or simply a visit with a difference to the island of Gozo. Gozitan villages offer a safe and ideal environment where families can explore, learn and participate, while enjoying the unique blend of tranquility and community spirit that Gozo offers.

Easter in Gozo is a special time of year that brings with it a strong sense of faith and tradition, which are deeply rooted in the Gozitan social fabric. During this time, each village is transformed into a living expression of devotion and community spirit that gives Gozo its unique identity. This is a time when the Gozitan community reflects more deeply on the passion, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Good Friday, in particular, remains one of the most moving experiences that the island of Gozo offers. Gozitan villages commemorate the Passion through processions, representations and plays that have been preserved and strengthened over the generations. These are not simply cultural events, but expressions of a strong faith, characterised by the dedication of volunteers, communities and families who invest a great deal of time and commitment to convey these traditions with dignity and respect. The result is an atmosphere of reflection and gathering that conveys a powerful message to all who visit or participate in these sacred events. Easter Sunday is characterised by the joyful ringing of church bells and the much-awaited processions of the Risen One, which fill our streets with hope, joy and renewal.

Minister Clint Camilleri concluded by inviting the public to experience this unique range of devotion, heritage and community engagement. All these elements show that Easter in Gozo is authentic, proud of its tradition and truly unforgettable.
