Local Council elections: Labour take 15 councils in first round

The Labour Party has taken control of 15 Local Councils as the first round of vote counting ended on Wednesday evening.

Labour gained control of Ghasri, in Gozo, for the first time but lost their majority in St Paul’s Bay which went to the Nationalist Party while Mellieha ended in a tie, with Labour and the PN each getting four seats with an Independent candidate getting elected.

Marsa has a new Labour mayor, Luke Farrugia, who contested for the first time.

In Zebbug, mother and son, Lillibeth Lupi and Steve Zammit Lupi were elected on the Independent ticket.
