Speaking at a party rally in Siggiewi, Prime Minister Robert Abela set out Labour’s programme for the European Parliament elections on June 8.
Among the Labour pledges, the promise that Labour MEP’s will work for the interest of Malta and Gozo.
He said they will work on environmental reforms and help to farmers and fishermen to ease administrative burdens and also take active part in every discussion about European funds so that Malta obtains the allocation, accessibility and use of the funds.
The Prime Minister also touched on immigration, a thorny issue in many countries. He said that those who do not have the right to be in the European Union will be sent back.
Robert Abela highlighted the difficulties that small countries face compared to larger EU member states and said that where small nations are effected negatively by regulations, Malta fights for better and fairer conditions.
With regards to Gozo, he said that the Labour vision is to preserve its authentic characteristics and its villages, a vision that he said stemmed from the Gozitans themselves. That vision, he said, is part of the electoral programme for the June election.
