PM tells Jean Paul Sofia’s family he will hold public inquiry

Prime Minister Robert Abela addresses a press conference

Prime Minister Robert Abela has told the parents of Jean Paul Sofia he will be appointing a public inquiry into the death of their son after meeting them at Castille.

Robert Abela had previously said he would stand by a magistrate inquiry and not call for a public inquiry and only last week parliament voted against such a move.

However, this decision by Prime Minister Abela may have been influenced by the decision for the magistrate demanding to extend the inquiry by another two months.

According to media reports, Prime Minister Robert Abela met Isabelle Bonnici and John Sofia in Castille to inform them of this latest development.
